Re-keying vs. Replacing Locks After You Move In
When re-keying is enough, when to replace locks, and how whole-house keyed-alike packages work — based on services Fletcher already offers in Turlock.

Short answer: Re-keying changes which keys operate your existing locks. Replacing installs new lock hardware. Choose re-keying when the hardware is sound and you need new keys or one-key convenience; choose replacement when you want new hardware, a new finish, or the old lock is worn out. Fletcher offers re-keying and whole-house keyed-alike packages from the Turlock showroom — see hardware.
When is re-keying enough?
Re-keying is often enough when:
- You moved into a home and don’t know who still has keys
- Keys were lost or copied
- You want several doors to use the same key (keyed alike)
- The lock body and finish still work and look fine
Re-keying keeps your existing hardware and changes the pin configuration so old keys no longer work.
When should you replace locks instead?
Replacement makes more sense when:
- The lock is damaged, sticky, or hard to operate
- You want a different style or finish to match other hardware
- You’re updating security features beyond a simple re-key
- Parts for the old lock are no longer practical to service
Fletcher stocks residential and commercial hardware brands such as Copper Creek, Kwikset, Schlage, Emtek, Amerock, DoorMerica, and Montana Forge — browse options on the hardware page.
What is a whole-house keyed-alike package?
A keyed-alike setup means multiple locks are pinned to the same key. One key can operate the front door, side door, and other openings you choose — instead of a ring of mismatched keys.
Fletcher offers re-keying and whole-house keyed-alike packages. Call (209) 632-3610 or visit 1720 Paulson Rd, Turlock to ask which openings can be keyed alike for your project.
Client TODO (not claimed here): whether re-keying is done only in-store, on-site, or both — confirm before advertising a specific service location.

Re-keying FAQs
When is re-keying enough?
Re-keying is often enough when the lock hardware still works well and you mainly need new keys — for example after a move, a lost key, or when you want every door on one key. If the lock is damaged, outdated, or you want a new finish or style, replacement may be the better path.
What is a keyed-alike package?
A whole-house keyed-alike package means multiple locks are set to work with the same key, so you are not juggling a different key for every door. Fletcher offers re-keying and whole-house keyed-alike packages — ask the team which approach fits your openings.
Does Fletcher stock hardware?
Yes. Hardware is stocked in the Turlock showroom and warehouse (along with moulding). Doors are not stocked; they are ordered daily.
